There’s a lesson to be learned when you look at the best hoodies on Amazon: the best things in life are the simplest. Because decking out a humble hoodie to the nines can feel like cheffing up a PB&J into a Michelin-starred entreé—fussy, unnecessary, and completely missing the point. (Don’t gentrify my struggle meal, bro!) There’s room for the indulgent, luxurious riff, no doubt. But when it comes down to it, we’d choose the ol’ faithful, cheap-o versions every single time.
As it stands, plenty of our overall best men's hoodies are already available on the mega-mega store, from Carhartt to Champion to Russell Athletic. It makes sense. While we can’t say you’d find some of our most coveted hoodies on Amazon, basic wardrobe staples like men's hoodies are where Amazon excels.
Be that as it may, the hoodies section is riddled with total stinkers. Some quick advice: if the brand has no vowels, avoid it at all costs. That’s why we took our decades of collective hoodie experience and rounded up the best Amazon hoodies right here. So don’t worry—when that Prime shipping hits your door, you’ll know that you won’t have to go through the returns process.
The Best Hoodies on Amazon, According to GQ
Best Hoodie Overall: Champion Reverse Weave Pullover Hoodie
Russell Athletic may have created the original sweatshirt, but Champion can lay claim to inventing the hoodie. Champion's also held the line well on thickness, strength, and durability, which is why we don't mind paying more for their hoodies.
Known for its iconic "reverse weave" fabric—where the fleece is cut to prevent vertical shrinkage—Champion makes athletic hoodies that won't literally get bent out of shape in the wash. The fabric is a heavy blend of cotton and polyester that's instantly recognizable for its burly weight, with a slightly rough exterior and a soft, brushed interior. The fit's just a teensy bit boxy and sits above the waist for a classic and flattering fit like vintage hoodies of yesteryear.
A big ol' kangaroo pocket for your goodies and dog-walking necessities, gusseted side panels for stretch and fit, and an embroidered “C” logo let you—and everyone else—know you're wearing the good stuff. That it's available from Amazon Prime is just icing on the cake.

Best Upgrade Hoodie: Reigning Champ Midweight Terry Hoodie
Reigning Champ takes their sweats seriously. Like, artisanal craftsmanship seriously. For some background, Vancouver-based CYC Design Corp—the same manufacturer that once made Supreme's famous athletic wear—launched Reigning Champ in 2007. That means you can get a Supreme-quality hoodie without having to wait for a drop. We could see that attention to detail in our fit tests of the Midweight Terry Hoodie, particularly in the industrial-strength ribbed hems that still flexed comfortably around our wrists and waist.
From the dense custom-milled French terry fabric to the flawless stitching, it's all made to the highest specs in Reigning Champ's own Canadian factory. We’re partial to the relaxed fit version of RC’s flagship hoodie, but if you’re not a fan of that roomier silhouette, the brand does offer it in multiple fits so you won’t feel left out.

Best Vintage-Like Hoodie: Russell Athletic Dri-Power Fleece Hoodie
Countless brands are churning out cheap sweats these days, but only Russell Athletic can claim to be the brand that literally invented the sweatshirt. That explains why vintage Russell apparel is a grail-level favorite among collectors. The company's modern hoodies aren't quite as beefy as the older stuff—to be fair, not many brands' hoodies are—but somehow Russell manages to make a wildly affordable sweatshirt that still feels good.
GQ staffers have been raving about these classic hoodies for years—we love the old-school details like the V-insert at the neck, ribbed cuffs, and drawstring hood. It's a perfect midweight long-sleeve for almost year-round wear, which means you'll get your money's worth. With more than a dozen colors to choose from, we highly recommend grabbing two or three. That said, we found the fit of Russell’s modern-day hoodies to be a tad sloppy all around, so we would recommend sizing down from your normal size.

Best Budget Hoodie: Hanes Ecosmart Full-Zip Fleece Hoodie
You probably won't get to pedal a phone-obsessed alien across the night sky wearing a Hanes hoodie like our boy Elliott, but yours will look solid on a bike ride to the weekend farmer's market. Hanes, purveyor of T-shirts both beefy and not, holds its own when it comes to fleece sweatshirts. As you can see below, GQ editors have tested (and loved) the pullover version of the Ecosmart hoodie. The full-zip is just as comfortable, and you can still warm your mitts in the twin pockets. The fabric is midweight, so it works nicely for most temps, and won't make you feel like a sumo wrestler when you pull on a coat. Plus, this sweatshirt comes in more than a dozen colors. We'd start with classic gray, but these Hanes Ecosmart Full-Zip hoodies are cheap enough to grab a few.
We normally don’t think of Hanes a core player in the hoodie space. But of all the Amazon hoodies we tested, Hanes was the most surprising as far as fit is concerned. It felt like the hoodies we remember from the ‘90s with a roomy body and not-too-long hem that sits right about the waist. And where other hoodies might require a few months of wears and launders to achieve that broken-in, lazy day level of comfort, Hanes was ready to go straight out of the package. The main downside? The zipper was a bit too janky for our liking, but workable. Other than that, for less than $20, how much can you really complain about?

Best '90s-Classic Hoodie: GAP Logo Heritage Full-Zip Hoodie
Gap’s seat at the American fashion table is well-deserved, from its solid lineup of denim products to ultra-soft pocket tees and more. It’s no wonder vintage-heads have been mining thrift stores for old Gap gear. Unlike its other mall neighbors/competitors, GAP can be sourced from Amazon with that sweet 2-day shipping and gratis returns. While we’re hesitant to call anything with a huge logo a timeless piece of clothing, Gap’s collegiate block letter logo hoodie is one of the very few exceptions.
It evokes the best of ‘90s style but it’s not just about the cute logo. The hoodie itself is a perfect midweight terry fabric that’s brushed on the inside for a plush feel. And as for the fit, it’s cut into an effortlessly relaxed silhouette without veering anywhere near sloppy. Pair it with your favorite wide-legged pants for a fit that's straight out of 1995—in the best way possible.

Best Heavy-Duty Hoodie: Carhartt Midweight Rain Defender Hooded Sweatshirt
If you've ever passed by a construction site, you've probably seen Carhartt's classic hoodie. It's dense and durable, with a cotton-heavy blend fabric that's weightier than most pairs of jeans. A water-repellent finish can shrug off some drops and spills (though no, this is not a raincoat subsitute). If you prefer more in-your-face Carhartt branding, then opt for the similar Carhartt Logo Sleeve Hoodie, though you'll lose out on the Rain Defender finish. For guys that like to wear their hoodie outside the house, this is a smart upgrade over basics from Hanes or Russell Athletics

Best Hoodie for Bad Weather: Arc'teryx Kyanite Fleece Hoodie
GORP-adjacent clothing broke mountain town containment years ago, but Arc’teryx only hit the Amazon shelves relatively recently Which means the brand's all-time-best mid-layer, the Kyanite Hoody, can now be acquired with Prime Shipping, which is notable in and of itself. But the Kyanite didn’t ascend to (quite literal) stratospheric heights by virtue of logo alone. Made with a partially-recycled Polartec fabric that’s insanely lightweight, armed with four-way stretch and also super warm, the latest iteration is tough as nails for when you want to wear it as an outer layer and, as always, it also layers under virtually any burly—and non-burly—jacket you might already own.

What Are the Best Hoodie Brands on Amazon?
If there’s one thing we know about shopping for menswear on Amazon, it’s not a place to score white-hot grails. Where the Bezos boutique excels is basics, i.e., hoodies. But don’t get too excited because we’re not talking about limited-edition graphic hoodies from your favorite indie streetwear label (though, that could be a high-level marketing stunt).
The kind of hoodies that we’re eyeing on Amazon come from the tried-and-true household names, the sort of brands that you, your parents, and grandparents grew up wearing. In the age of AI, there’s no stopping the waves of indie brands and upstart no-names looking to cash in on the hoodies demand. But the vast majority of them are just selling white-label sweats affixed with their own tags. Big ups to the entrepreneurs, but we’d steer you away from the all-caps, all-consonant “brands” on Amazon.
Instead, rely on the brands that have been doing what they do for generations. That means brands like Champion and Russell Athletic whose contributions to fashion led to the booming hoodies industry we have today. In the same way Levi’s is a go-to name for its five-pocket blue jeans, it helps to think of brands that have had a meaningful impact in the sweatshirt category.
How We Test and Review Products
Style is subjective, we know—that’s the fun of it. But we’re serious about helping our audience get dressed. Whether it’s the best white sneakers, the flyest affordable suits, or the need-to-know menswear drops of the week, GQ Recommends’ perspective is built on years of hands-on experience, an insider awareness of what’s in and what’s next, and a mission to find the best version of everything out there, at every price point.
Our staffers aren’t able to try on every single piece of clothing you read about on GQ.com (fashion moves fast these days), but we have an intimate knowledge of each brand’s strengths and know the hallmarks of quality clothing—from materials and sourcing, to craftsmanship, to sustainability efforts that aren’t just greenwashing. GQ Recommends heavily emphasizes our own editorial experience with those brands, how they make their clothes, and how those clothes have been reviewed by customers. Bottom line: GQ wouldn’t tell you to wear it if we wouldn’t.
How We Make These Picks
We make every effort to cast as wide of a net as possible, with an eye on identifying the best options across three key categories: quality, fit, and price.
To kick off the process, we enlist the GQ Recommends braintrust to vote on our contenders. Some of the folks involved have worked in retail, slinging clothes to the masses; others have toiled for small-batch menswear labels; all spend way too much time thinking about what hangs in their closets.
We lean on that collective experience to guide our search, culling a mix of household names, indie favorites, and the artisanal imprints on the bleeding-edge of the genre. Then we narrow down the assortment to the picks that scored the highest across quality, fit, and price.
Across the majority of our buying guides, our team boasts firsthand experience with the bulk of our selects, but a handful are totally new to us. So after several months of intense debate, we tally the votes, collate the anecdotal evidence, and emerge with a list of what we believe to be the absolute best of the category right now, from the tried-and-true stalwarts to the modern disruptors, the affordable beaters to the wildly expensive (but wildly worth-it) designer riffs.
Whatever your preferences, whatever your style, there's bound to be a superlative version on this list for you. (Read more about GQ's testing process here.)
